How to Install NRPE on AIX
The NRPE add-on for Unix and Linux systems allows you to execute Nagios plugins. Therefore, if you are running an IBM AIX Unix machine and need to implement Nagios plugins while maintaining your operating system's local resources (such as CPU load and memory), you must install this add-on. Like most operations in IBM AIX, these commands should be issued from the command line.
Download the NRPE binary to your /opt folder (see Resources).
Open your AIX command line if it is not already open. Type "cd /opt" and press "Enter."
Type "gunzip /opt/nrpe-nsca-plugins.tgz" (ensuring that the file name reflects your downloaded version). Press "Enter."
Type "tar xvf /opt/nrpe-nsca=plugins.tar" and press "Enter."
Type "cp /opt/nagios/etc/* /etc/" and press "Enter." Type "vi /etc/nrpe.cfg" and press "Enter." Change the 'command[check_users] line to ensure that the path is correct, exit and save from vi.
Type "cp /opt/nagios/bin/* /usr/bin" and press "Enter." Type "nohup /usr/bin/nrpe -c /etc/nrpe.cfg -d" and press "Enter."
Type "/usr/bin/nrpe -c /etc/nrpe.cfg -d" and press "Enter." Type "less /etc/rc.local," press "Enter" and ensure that "nohup /usr/bin/nrpe -c /etc/nrpe.cfg -d > /dev/null 2>&1#Start NRPE for Nagios" is displayed.
Type "ps -ef | grep nrpe" and press "Enter." This completes the installation task.
