To install an SM bus controller driver, you must obtain the correct version for your motherboard. The System Management, or SM, bus controller is a device on the motherboard that monitors the power-related functions of your computer, such as the power button and the speed of various fans in the computer. You can obtain the necessary driver from the driver disc provided with your motherboard, or by downloading it directly from the motherboard manufacturer's website.

Insert the driver disc into the disc drive, or download the latest SM Bus Controller driver. If you need to download the driver, go to the "Support" section of the website and enter the model number of your motherboard or computer system.
Double-click the "exe" file on the disc, or from the download. If you downloaded the driver, you may have to extract a ZIP archive, depending on how the manufacturer packages the file.
Follow the on-screen prompts to proceed with the installation. In most cases, you can click "Next" a few times to complete the process.
Restart the computer after the driver has installed. Restarting the computer allows the SM Bus Controller driver to load during the system start-up.
