How to Make a CBR File

By Mark Walker

CBR, which stands for Comic Book RAR Archive, is a file format that compiles comic book pages in JPG, PNG and GIF formats into a single file. You can create a CBR file immediately after compiling the necessary files into an archive using WinRAR, which has the ability to use the RAR file format. However, you must use a CBR viewer such a CDisplay or Comical to open any CBR files that you create.

Step 1

Create a new folder by right-clicking, pointing to "New" and selecting "Folder." Copy the JPG, PNG or GIF images that you want to include in the CBR file into the newly created folder. Copy the image file by right-clicking and selecting "Copy." Go inside the newly created folder, right-click and select "Paste" to paste the image file.

Step 2

Install WinRAR (see Resources). You can use WinRAR without paying.

Step 3

Right-click the new folder, and then select "Add to Archive." Ensure that the archive format is set to "RAR" and not to "ZIP." Click "OK" to create a "RAR" archive of the folder.

Step 4

Right-click the RAR archive and select "Rename." Highlight the part named "rar" and type in "cbr."

Step 5

Press "Enter" to create the CBR file.
