How to Make Fake CNN Headline News Pages

CNN Headline News is a 24-hour cable news channel. It is a spinoff channel of CNN. It specializes in providing short bursts of important news in condensed segments. Recently, Headline News has expanded its brand to the Web, and updates frequently to If you want to make your own fake version of an HLN webpage for entertainment purposes, you can do so with a little bit of graphic design knowledge and the right software.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer with Internet access
  • Adobe Photoshop

Step 1

Boot up your computer and open your Web browser.

Step 2

Open Photoshop and create a new document. Make the document 750 px wide by at least 1000 px tall. You can make it taller if you'd like to create a scrolling webpage.

Step 3

Right-click on the CNN Headline News logo at the top of the HLN webpage and click "Save as." Drag that file into your Photoshop file, and resize it (using Edit -> Free Transform) until it is the same size as it is on the HLN webpage.

Select the line tool in Photoshop and draw several horizontal lines in your Photoshop file, similar to the banners you see at the top of

Select the paint bucket tool in Photoshop and color the areas between the lines. If you want to make the colors exact, click the color wheel, and hover your mouse over the color you want on the HLN webpage. If you click it, the color wheel in Photoshop should do its best to exactly approximate the particular shade of red, black, or white that you're attempting to replicate.

Step 6

Drag and drop whatever photos you'd like for your Headline News page from whatever folder you've saved them to into your Photoshop workspace. Make sure to resize them using "Edit -> Free Transform" until you're satisfied with the results.

Step 7

Select the text tool in Photoshop, and add text throughout your file. Use white, black, and blue text. All of the text on is if the font Helvetica, and some of it is bold. Play around with different sizes and styles until the page looks right.

Step 8

Select the paintbrush tool, and set the pixel size to 5. Change the color to red, and add several red balls throughout your page in a style similar to the red bullet-points on

Save your file as a TIFF or PDF file when you are finished.
