How to Make the Taskbar Smaller

By Kefa Olang

The taskbar is a toolbar generally located on the bottom of your desktop. It allows you to monitor opened applications and network connections, as well as launch applications without going through the Start menu or system folders. The larger the taskbar, the more space it takes up on your screen. To maximize your screen, reduce the size of your taskbar in a quick and simple process.

Step 1

Right-click any part of the taskbar and click "Properties." The "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" dialog box launches.

Step 2

Click the "Taskbar" tab and select the "Use Small Icons" checkbox. This reduces the size of the taskbar by reducing the size of icons. Click "OK" to save your changes.

Step 3

Alternately, right-click the taskbar and uncheck the "Lock the Taskbar" option. Point to the edge of the taskbar until your pointer becomes a double-headed arrow, then drag the border downwards to decrease the size of the taskbar.
