How to Navigate on Tumblr

By Michael Butler

Tumblr blogs can have many different layouts, which can make it difficult for you to navigate to find old posts. You cannot search for old posts directly on Tumblr. However, if you want to find particular posts on a Tumblr blog, you can use one of three navigation methods common to almost all Tumblr themes.

Step 1

Scroll to the bottom of the Tumblr page that you want to navigate. Click "Next Page" to go to older posts. Continue scrolling down and clicking "Next Page" to find even older posts. Some Tumblr blogs have page number buttons on the bottom of the page as well. Use these buttons to go directly to a page. Other Tumblr blogs use a dynamic scrolling theme. As you scroll down the page, older posts will continue to load. You will not see a "Next Page" button on these Tumblr blogs.

Step 2

Type the direct URL for a page into your browser's address bar. Tumblr uses the same basic structure to organize different blogs. You can use this to skip to the page that you want. For example, type "example.tumblr.com/page/50" and press "Enter" to go directly to page 50 on the example Tumblr.

Step 3

Go to the Tumblr blog's archive directly. Type "example.tumblr.com/archive" into your browser's address bar and press "Enter." The Tumblr's posts display as thumbnails. The archive is organized by year and month of posts. Click the "Jump to Month" button to skip to a particular month.
