How to Open MOD and MOI Files

By Susan Reynolds

Do you have .mod or .moi files that you can't open because you don't have the proper software? MOD and MOI files are commonly found in JVC digital cameras and camcorders. Most photo and video editing software programs cannot open MOD or MOI files, so you will need to convert them into a format like MPG or AVI in order to view and edit them. Fortunately, you can easily download a free software program that will convert your MOD and MOI files to file types that you can open with almost any editing program.

Step 1

Download and install AVS Video Tools. You can buy the AVS Video Tools software or you can use the free version, which will put a watermark on your videos.

Step 2

Open the program and hit the "Browse" button on the right-hand side to find the MOD or MOI file that you want to convert.

Step 3

Click the file type that you want to convert it into. For example, click "To MPEG" if you want to turn your MOD or MOI file into an MPEG. There are several different types of video outputs to choose from, including AVI, DVD, MP4, WMV, Flash, RM, and 3GP. Save and close the dialog box to return to the main screen.

Step 4

Hit the "Menu" button that is located on the top right-hand side. Pick your frame width, size and height.

Step 5

Press the "Convert Now" button to start the conversion process. This may take several minutes.

Step 6

Play your MOD and MOI files with one of your media players.
