How to Play a .Mkv on the iPad

By Spanner Spencer

The iPad is able to play MP4-formatted videos natively through its iPod application, but third-party multimedia apps are also able to play a variety of other digital video files, such as the Matroska MKV format. MKV is a container file, which is used to group together an unlimited number of video, audio, image and subtitle files in a single MKV package. By installing a third-party multimedia player and transferring the files through iTunes, the iPad can play videos stored in MKV files.

Launch the App Store application on the iPad by tapping its icon on the home screen.

Step 2

Step 3

Launch "iTunes" on the computer, and connect the iPad using its USB cable. ITunes will automatically detect that an iPad has been connected and create and entry for it in the "Devices" section.
