How to Remove LogMeIn Files in the Registry

LogMeIn is a remote computer access program for the Windows operating system. The program allows you to access a home or office computer without the expense of additional equipment and custom programming. LogMeIn, like other Windows-based programs, is easily removed from your computer, but sometimes fragments of the program remain and have to be removed manually from the computer's registry file.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer running Windows operating system

Step 1

Press the “Ctrl,” “Alt” and “Del” keys together to open the Task Manager.

Step 2

Click on the “Processes” tab.

Step 3

Scroll down to “logmeinsystray.exe.” Click on the file name. Click on “End Process.”

Step 4

Scroll down to the following files: “logmein.exe,” “openssl.exe,” “ra16app.exe,” “raabout.exe,” “ramaint.exe,” “rainst.exe,” “ra_sc.exe,” “ra_reboot.exe” and “zip.exe.” Click on each file name. Click on “End Process” after each file.

Step 5

Click on the “X” located on the upper right-hand side of the Task Manager to close the application.

Step 6

Click “Start” and “Run...” Type “regedit” in the box next to the heading “Open:”.

Step 7

Click “OK.”

Step 8

Scroll through the entries in the left pane of the Registry Editor screen to the entry “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\logmein.” Click on the entry.

Step 9

Press the “Delete” key on your computer's keyboard.

Step 10

Locate and delete the following registry entries:
“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Microsoft\\windows nt\\currentversion\\winlogon\\notify\\lmiinit asynchronous,”
“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Microsoft\\windows nt\\currentversion\\winlogon\\notify\\lmiinit dllname,”
“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Microsoft\\windows nt\\currentversion\\winlogon\\notify\\lmiinit impersonate,”
“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Microsoft\\windows nt\\currentversion\\winlogon\\notify\\lmiinit lock.”

Step 11

Locate and delete the following registry entries:
“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Microsoft\\windows nt\\currentversion\\winlogon\\notify\\lmiinit logoff,”
“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Microsoft\\windows nt\\currentversion\\winlogon\\notify\\lmiinit logon,”
“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Microsoft\\windows nt\\currentversion\\winlogon\\notify\\lmiinit shutdown,”
“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Microsoft\\windows nt\\currentversion\\winlogon\\notify\\lmiinit startscreensaver.”

Step 12

Locate and delete the following registry entries:
“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Microsoft\\windows nt\\currentversion\\winlogon\\notify\\lmiinit startshell,”
“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Microsoft\\windows nt\\currentversion\\winlogon\\notify\\lmiinit startup,”
“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Microsoft\\windows nt\\currentversion\\winlogon\\notify\\lmiinit stopscreensaver,”
“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Microsoft\\windows nt\\currentversion\\winlogon\\notify\\lmiinit unlock.”

Step 13

Locate and delete the following registry entries:
“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Microsoft\\windows nt\\currentversion\\winlogon\\specialaccounts\\userlist logmeinremoteuser,”
“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Microsoft\\windows\\currentversion\\installer\\folders c:\\program files\\logmein\\,”
“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Microsoft\\windows\\currentversion\\uninstall\\{fcd06104-04f6-45aa-886b-0fb75c7eed3d}.”

Step 14

Locate and delete the following registry entries:
“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\System\\currentcontrolset\\control\\print\\environments\\windows nt x86\\drivers\\version-3\\logmein printer driver,”
“HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\\Appid\\logmein.exe appid,”
“HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\\clsid\\{33d9a760-90c8-11d0-bd43-00a0c911ce86}\\instance\\logmein video encoder,”
“HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\\logmein.guestinvite,”
“HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\\logmein.guestinvite.1,” “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\software\\logmein.”

Step 15

Click the “X” in the upper-right hand corner to close the Registry Editor screen.

Step 16

Restart your computer to complete the process.

  • Be careful when working with and deleting entries in the Windows Registry, as the entries control every function within your computer's operating system.
