How to Remove Media Player Classic

By Ryan Maxwell

Media Player Classic is a video software commonly included with the K-Lite Codec Pack. It plays a wide range of video files, but removing it requires more than clicking on an uninstall icon. Follow these instructions to remove it from your Windows-based computer with relatively little difficulty.

Step 1

Left-click the "Start" menu button in the lower left-hand corner of your screen.

Step 2

Hold the mouse pointer over the "All Programs" button until the program list pops up.

Step 3

Move the mouse pointer over to the K-Lite Codec Pack menu. This will display four submenus and a shortcut for Media Player Classic below the submenus.

Step 4

Right-click the Media Player Classic shortcut and select the "Properties" option in the bottom of the menu that appears. This will bring up a window displaying the shortcut properties.

Step 5

Click the "Find Target" button. This will bring up another window displaying the folder that has the executable file for Media Player Classic.

Step 6

Hold down the left mouse button and drag the mouse pointer over both "mplayerc.exe" and "mplayerc.ini." Once both files are highlighted, hit the delete key.

Step 7

Close the window and return to the start menu, then to the K-Lite Codec Pack title.

Step 8

Right-click the Media Player Classic shortcut and select "Delete" from the menu. When the confirmation window appears, click the "Delete Shortcut" button to complete the removal of Media Player Classic from your computer.
