How to Reset a Google Ematic Tablet

By William Pullman

Ematic tablets, which run Google's Android operating system, allow for soft resets and factory data resets. A soft reset is useful if the tablet is not operating as it should, such as if the screen freezes. A factory data reset erases all of the data and settings on the tablet, returning the device to the same state it was when you first set it up. This type of reset is useful if you have recurring problems with the tablet, or if you are getting rid of the tablet and need to delete all of your information.

Things You'll Need

  • Paper clip

Soft Reset

Step 1

Locate the reset button. On some Ematic models, it's on one of the sides of the device and has an icon of two arrows forming a circle, while on other models it's located on the back. The arrows icon doesn't always accompany the reset button, but the button is always in a small hole.

Step 2

Place a small object, such as a paper clip, into the hole to press the reset button.

Step 3

Remove the paper clip. The tablet turns off and then on again.

Factory Reset

Step 1

Press the physical "Home" button or tap the "Home" button in the navigation bar, depending on your model of Ematic tablet.

Step 2

Tap "Settings," tap "Backup & Reset," and then press "Factory Data Reset." A message appears detailing the data that will be lost when you perform a factory reset.

Step 3

Touch "Reset Tablet," and then tap "Erase Everything" on the confirmation screen to confirm the factory reset.

Tips & Warnings

  • Many Ematic tablets have a reset button, but some, like the Ematic Genesis Prime EGS004, do not. If your model doesn't have a reset button, press and hold the "Power" button for six seconds to perform a soft reset.
