How to Reset Remote Apple TVs

By Mario Calhoun

If your Apple remote is unresponsive when used with your Apple TV and you've changed the batteries, you may need to reset the device. Although many response issues are due to either being too far away from the infrared receiver or to having a low battery, a reset of the device repairs the connection to the Apple TV, according to Apple. The infrared receiver is located on the front of the Apple TV, and enables to remote to communicate with the peripheral device.

Step 1

Insert the power cable into the power port of the Apple TV and into an available electrical outlet.

Step 2

Power on your television, and point the Apple remote toward the Apple TV.

Step 3

Press and hold the "Menu" and "Rewind" buttons for five to six seconds to unpair the device.

Step 4

Release the buttons, and hold down the "Menu" and "Fast Forward" buttons on the remote for five seconds.

Step 5

Release the buttons, and press the "Up" or "Down" buttons on the remote's face to test the remote.
