How to Restore a Gateway Laptop to Factory Settings

There is very little that is more frustrating than unsuspected computer malfunctions. Restoring your computers factory settings can help fix problems within your computers operating system. Restoring your computers factory settings is a useful skill of any computer owner. Gateway laptops use an application in Windows called the Windows System Restore utility. Fortunately, this is a task that is easy to learn and can be completed in just a few minutes.

Step 1

Turn on your laptop, and then wait for your system to boot up.

Step 2

Press "F1" and wait for the Windows Help and Support Center to open.

Step 3

Click on "Undo changes to your computer with System Restore." Wait for the "Welcome to System Restore"dialog box to open.

Step 4

Select "Restore my computer to an earlier time" and click on the "Next" button to continue. Wait for the "Select a Restore Point" dialog box will open. The dialog box will consist of a calendar. Select the date you purchased your computer, or a close estimate. Click on the "Next" button to continue.

Step 5

Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the Gateway System Restore process.
