Most AT&T mobile phones are capable of sending and receiving text messages. Text messages are short messages consisting of up to 160 characters. The messages are often exchanged within seconds after being sent. You can send a text message to an AT&T customer through Microsoft Outlook. Although the message is created as an email message, it will be delivered to the recipient's mobile phone in the same manner as a text message sent from a mobile phone.
Open your Outlook email client from your computer's desktop. You can also Outlook by clicking the "Start" button and selecting "Microsoft Outlook" from the menu.
Click "New E-Mail" and a blank email message will open.
Enter the recipient's AT&T mobile email address. The mobile email address will be their 10-digit phone number followed by "@txt.att.net." An example address would be firstname.lastname@example.org.
Enter the text message in the body of the email. You can also enter a subject in the field indicated if desired.
Click "Send" and the recipient will receive your text message within seconds.
