How to Stop Avast From Blocking Websites

By Jason Artman

Avast! is one of several computer anti-virus programs that is available both in free and commercial versions. Because it is so important to protect a computer from malicious software, many computer users have downloaded the free version of Avast! to use at home. Avast! has a built-in feature that allows you to block certain websites, preventing anyone from using your computer to access them. If you have accidentally enabled website blocking, or blocked a website that you did not intend to, you can disable this feature just as quickly.

Step 1

Right-click the orange Avast! icon in the system tray, then click "Open Avast! User Interface." This launches the main Avast! application.

Step 2

Click the "Additional Protection" tab on the left side of the window, then click "Site Blocking" under it. The right side of the window displays a list of each website that Avast! is blocking.

Step 3

Click a website on the list, then click the gray "Delete" button at the end of the row to stop blocking an individual website.

Step 4

Clear the check from the "Enable Site Blocking" box at the top of the window to completely disable website blocking in Avast!.

Step 5

Close the Avast! user interface to return to the desktop.
