How to Update to the Latest Version of the Internet Explorer Browser

By Risa Edwards

Internet Explorer is the standard web browser that comes with Microsoft Windows. The program gets updated frequently to address security issues as well as to provide new features. You can download the newest version of Internet Explorer for free from the Microsoft website. You may prefer to use another browser, but it is still a good idea to get the latest version of Internet Explorer. There are a number of websites or applications that cannot run on any other browser.

Step 1

Visit the Internet Explorer Homepage (see Resources below). You can do this from any web browser. Click on the orange "Download now" button.

Step 2

Select your country and operating system from the drop-down menus. Change your connection type to get an updated download time and change the language if preferred. Click on "Download" at the top of the blue box.

Step 3

Wait for your download to begin or click on "Start download." Choose "Save File" in the dialog box.

Step 4

Double-click on the file to install the program. Click on "Run" and then "Next." Read and accept the license terms. Click "Next" and wait for Internet Explorer to be installed. This may take several minutes, depending on your Internet connection.

Step 5

Choose "Restart now" to finalize the installation, or "Restart later" to do it at another time.
