How to Update Your Yahoo Web Page
Yahoo! offers free and subscription web pages for individuals and small businesses through its GeoCities site. No matter your website's purpose, it's always important to regularly update it. There are two ways to update your Yahoo! web pages using the website building tools that come with your account; through PageBuilder, which lets you work directly on the web page, or through the File Manager, which allows you to make changes through the HTML version of your web page.
How to Update Your Web Page Through PageBuilder
Log into your Yahoo! GeoCities account with your Yahoo! ID and password by clicking "Sign In" on the GeoCities homepage.
Click "Create & Update" on the control panel. Click on the Yahoo! "PageBuilder" link, and click "Launch PageBuilder". Pop-ups need to be enabled on your browser for PageBuilder to load. An instruction box will appear explaining how to allow pop-ups from this site if you haven't already enabled this feature. A pop-box will also appear as PageBuilder opens. You can minimize this box, but make sure to keep this box open as you work on your site, or PageBuilder will shut down.
Click "File" in PageBuilder. Select "Open Page" from the pull-down menu. A dialog box will open with a list of your web pages. Click on the page you wish to update, and click "OK".
Type in text in an existing text box by clicking on the box and begin typing. Add new text by clicking on the "Text" button by dragging the text box to the desired location with your mouse. Click on the text box and begin typing.
Upload a picture to your web page by clicking the "Pictures" button. Click "Upload > Browse" to find a picture on your computer's hard drive. Click on the picture and click "Open > Upload". Drag the picture to the desired location using your mouse.
Click "Preview" to see how your web page looks while you are working on it. Remember to click "Save" every 3 to 5 minutes to save the changes that you have made to your web page.
Click "Save" when you are finished updating your web page. Click "OK" to save and preview your updated web page. Close the PageBuilder pop-up box to exit the PageBuilder program.
How to Update Your Web Page Through File Manager
Log into your Yahoo! GeoCities account with your Yahoo! ID and password.
Click the "Manage" tab on the control panel. Click "File Manager" and then "Open".
Check the web page that you want to update, and click "Edit". This will take you to the HTML version of your web page.
Update the page. Replace or add text by typing in the sections where the changes are needed. Add pictures by uploading them through the File Manager, and create image links within the HTML text. Make sure to click "Save" and "Continue" every 3 to 5 minutes to save the work you have done. Click "Preview" to see how the changes look.
Scroll down to return to the File Manager. Click "Save" when you have finished updating your page. You will be directed back to the File Manager's main page. Click "Refresh File Manager" to update the main page.
Continue updating other web pages or log out of the site by clicking "Sign Out" on the top of the page.
Tips & Warnings
- Do not attempt to update your web page through the File Manager unless you have a working knowledge of HTML. One wrong move in an HTML document can destroy an entire web page, and you will have to recreate the page from scratch.
