How to Upgrade Mac Safari Browser

Safari is the free Apple Web browser. In addition to Mac and PC versions of the program, Safari is available for the iPod touch, iPhone and iPad. The Apple website touts the browsers sleek design, innovations, fast speed and security as key reasons for people to use Safari. Safari 5 is available for Macs running OS X Leopard 10.5.8 or OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.2 or later.

Step 1

Go to the Apple Safari download page.

Step 2

Click on either the Snow Leopard or Leopard version of the program. Use the check box and text box to indicate if you want Apple to send you emails. Press the "Download Now" button.

Step 3

Save the file to your "Downloads" folder, or the location you desire on your computer.

Step 4

Double-click on the SafariX.dmg file. The file will mount to your Desktop and open in the finder.

Step 5

Double-click on the SafariX.pkg file to launch the Safari installer. Follow the onscreen instructions to upgrade to the latest version of Safari.

Step 6

Click the "Restart" button to restart the computer after the installer indicates the installation was a success.
