Alt codes are symbols that can be produced by holding down the Alt key, typing the appropriate numbers on the keyboard, and releasing both. Alt codes can be used in MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter to produce symbols such as hearts, stars, smiley faces, and music notes. However, since most laptops don't include keypads on the keyboard, the method varies slightly when entering the codes on a laptop.
Press the the "Num lock" key on your laptops keyboard. If the number lock key is blue, press the "Fn" key and the "Num lock" key at the same time.
Locate the blue numbers on your keyboard, normally located on letter keys in the left part of the keyboard. The number lock activates these number keys.
Press and hold the "Alt" key, type the number code and release the number and alt keys. If your laptop doesn't include a number lock key, press the "Fn" key while pressing the "Alt" key.
