How to Watch DVDs on an Acer Laptop

By Megan Mattingly-Arthur

Based in Taiwan and headquartered in Xizhi, Taipei County, Acer is a multinational electronics and computer company that specializes in affordable laptop and desktop computers. Many Acer laptop models offer an optical drive that is capable of playing both CDs and DVDs. If you're the owner of a new Acer laptop, you can set up your new notebook computer to play all your favorite DVDs in just minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Acer laptop
  • DVD

Step 1

Locate the optical drive on the right side of your Acer Laptop. Look for the easily recognizable "DVD" logo. Note that if your optical drive does not have the "DVD" logo, you will be unable to watch DVDs on your laptop as your optical drive is only capable of playing CDs.

Step 2

Press the small button on your optical drive to open it. Remove any CDs left in the optical drive, if applicable.

Step 3

Place a DVD, label side up, in the optical drive tray. Push gently on the optical drive with the tips of your fingers to close it.

Step 4

Wait for a dialog box to appear asking you how you would like to open the DVD in your optical drive. Select the media player of your choice from the dialog box's drop-down menu and click "Open."

Step 5

Use the DVD controls at the bottom of your laptop screen to play, pause, stop, rewind or fast-forward the DVD as desired.
