How to Make a Zip File or Compressed File

By eHow Contributor

Compressed files make it easier to send several files via email, upload them to a forum or post them on another website. Zip files are one of the more popular and supported compression algorithms. Windows XP and above includes Zip compression right in Windows Explorer. This means you don't need a third-party program to create a Zip file from one or more files or folders on your computer.

Step 1

Open the "Start" menu and click the "Computer" icon. Navigate to the location of the file or files you want to Zip.

Step 2

Select the files or folders you want to Zip by pressing the "Ctrl" key and clicking on each one in turn. Skip this step if you only want to Zip one file.

Step 3

Right-click the selection or file and move to the "Send to" option. Click the "Compressed (zipped) folder" option to create the Zip file.
